What is Local SEO?

The set of techniques that get your practice to show up in the Google searches of nearby patients, especially on the map and in location-based results.

Definition

Local SEO is the set of optimization techniques aimed at ranking a business in searches with local intent, that is, when someone looks for a service "near me" or in a specific city or neighborhood. Unlike traditional SEO, it focuses on appearing on the Google map, in the local pack of results, and in searches from people who are physically nearby. You earn it mainly by working on your Google Business Profile, your reviews, the consistency of your contact details, and location-focused content.

Why it matters to your practice

For a practice or clinic, most patients look for care close to where they live or work: people rarely cross the city for a routine visit. Local SEO gets your practice to appear exactly when someone in your area searches "dentist near me" or "dermatologist in [neighborhood]," which is usually the moment they are ready to book. A well-optimized profile with reviews, hours, location, and a direct WhatsApp button then turns those searches into real appointments, without depending only on paid ads. It is one of the most cost-effective and durable ways to attract local patients on a steady basis.

Example

A dermatologist with an office in the Del Valle neighborhood of Mexico City optimizes her Google Business Profile: she picks the correct category, uploads photos of the office, keeps her hours current, and asks patients for reviews after each visit. As a result, when someone in the area searches "dermatologist in Del Valle" or "dermatologist near me," her practice appears near the top of the map with the option to reach her directly on WhatsApp to book.
